The Drinmore Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) at Fairyhouse on 4th December may hold some answers to Cheltenham.
Mighty Potter won the Drinmore in December, a race that has since gone well for the two-time Grade 1-winning hurdler. He now has a record of 2-2 over larger obstacles.
Since then, Mighty Potter’s popularity has continued to rise, as evidenced by his most recent victory at the Dublin Racing Festival in the Novice Chase at Leopardstown.
Other big-race eyecatchers
Gaillard Du Mesnil, who finished second at Leopardstown over Christmas and won in Grade 1 company, leads the betting for the National Hunt Chase, in which Patrick Mullins is likely to ride.
Third home, Banbridge won the Martin Pipe Hurdle this past season and added to his excellent Cheltenham record by winning over fences in November at the track. He will travel to Cheltenham with leading claims in the Turners Novices’ Chase after finishing second to El Fabiolo in the Irish Arkle at the Dublin Racing Festival.
The Willie Mullins-trained duo Authorized Art (fourth) and Adamantly Chosen (fifth) were further down the Drinmore field. Even though they were beaten by at least 25 lengths at Fairyhouse, they did much better when they met again in the Grade 1 Faugheen Novice Chase in December at Limerick, with Adamantly Chosen coming in second to Scilly Isles star Gerri Colombe.
The Drinmore was a competitive race that ought to have a significant impact on the Cheltenham Festival.
