The Punchestown Hurdle Leopardstown on 31st of December can give us some Cheltenham Festival tips.
Although the 2m312f hurdle has historically not been a race for producing form lines for the Cheltenham Festival, the race in December featured a number of well-known names that may well be worth following.
First, the winner, Saint Sam, appeared to enjoy the return to smaller obstacles, winning comfortably by six and a half lengths. The Stayers’ Hurdle appears to be a target for his connections, who are looking to increase him even further in trip. He could end up being the dark horse in what appears to be the most open feature race at the festival.
Other eyecatchers
Summerville Boy, the 2018 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner who made a promising stable debut for Henry de Bromhead and finished fourth at Punchestown, has since finished second behind Teahupoo at Gowran Park. He will also have the option of handicaps and the Stayers’ Hurdle, possibly the Coral Cup. 23171255 were his Cheltenham form figures.
